What is the name of your state? Texas

I have a legal question regarding my pet. In 2003, I was dating a man who was arrested and sent to Federal prison. I took in his cat because there was no one to care for it. Now, 5 years later, the cat is 14 years old and the man I was dating is out of prison and wants the cat back. Through the years I have cared for the cat, taken it to the vet regularly, loved it and I do not want to give it back. He has repeatedly threatened to sue me. Can he really take the cat back? What can I do?

Unless he told you, "L3Houston, since I can't have a cat in prison, I'm giving it to you," the cat is still his.
