New York: If a will is held by a lawyer are they legally required to alert beneficiaries of the wills existance or is it down to possible inheritors to approach the law firm?

How was the will given to the lawyer? By the person whom it was written for?

If you don't think the lawyer knows about the death, then inform him.

If you think he is deliberately withholding it for some unknown reason, then open up probate yourself so that you can ask judge to ask this lawyer to produce it for court. But you at least need to ask the attorney why he hasn't submitted it yet, just to see what his response is.

It is the EXECUTOR's responsibility to notify potential beneficiaries of copies of the will AFTER probate has been opened. Is this lawyer also the executor of the will?
