I am the executor of the estate of a few family members. What is a reasonable fee to be charged? And since the various family members reside in different states, is the fee based on their residence or mine? The live in VA, MA, CT. Please advise. Thank you. Dave

Probate is normally done in the county courthouse probate court of the city where the decedent died, so you need to be contacting each individual county in the applicable states to ask if they allow an out-of-state resident to be an executor in the applicable county--some counties allow it, others don't. If the estates are of considerable value, you may want to hire a probate attorney in each county to handle this if you don't have the time to take off of work to do it. There are different executor fee rates for each state.
