Is a hospital or doctor permitted to put a lien on your home for medical bills you are not able to pay?

I want to clarify racers answer....

Most states give specific lien rights to certain parties; such as Contractors, Mechanics, etc. They can file a direct lien on your property without a judgment.

However, other claimants that are not given specific lien powers must have a judgment first before they can place a lien on your property.

In fact, the Florida Statutes, Title XI, Chapter 713, details specific liens that can be placed on property.
