If a juvenile from New York City is arrested at a protest in San Francisco for a minor charge, what happens? Do the police in San Francisco need the juveniles parents or guardian to come to San Francisco for the juvenile to be released?

By juvenile I am referring to someone around seventeen.

Thank You.

Someone will need to take responsibility for the child, yes.

There are some options that might be made available, but that will be up to the authorities in the locale where he or she is arrested. In CA we cannot just let a 17-year-old out on their own on the streets. If they came with some adults, and the parents could be contacted, they MIGHT allow the adult to take the child into their care and custody. However, many counties would not allow this as it will be obvious that the adult was unable to care for the minor in the first place because they allowed him to attend a rally where he got arrested.

In the end, the child might be held until the parents could come and get him ... or, until trial. It depends on the offense.
