What is the name of your state? DC

Hi, I am from Manhattan, NY, but I am currently a sophomore at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. I have had NO prior run-ins with the law and have a PERFECT record (no speeding or parking tickets...I mean NOTHING). Two weeks ago, under the influence of some of my less intelligent friends, I attended at 18 and over event at a DC night club. Under the pressure from my friends, I first gave a false identification at the door, unawares at the time that it was 18 and over. When the bouncer turned the ID down, I relinquished it without a fight. He asked me if I had any real ID and I showed him my 19 year old drivers license. He then allowed me into the club. Later that night, my underage friend (but who had gotten in with a fake) was trying to buy a table. She convinced me to use my credit card as she had forgotten hers at home. I offered the man my credit card but when he realized I was underage he took me outside. He asked me to show my real driver's license, which I did. I then offered to leave the club as soon as my real drivers license, which was being looked at by another bouncer, was returned to me. The return of the license was refused to me. I offered to give them all of my information but I requested my ID be returned a second time. They then escorted me outside of the rope and when I finally gave up on getting the ID returned, I asked for the man's name who had taken it and he refused to give it to me. I called the police and reported the crime, I was honest about the false identification when I filed the report. It is two weeks later and the club has yet to return my calls about the ID. If I do not get it returned, could I hold them accountable for theft? If it is, can they send me to jail for use of a false identification? I believe that (even attempted) use of a fake ID in DC is a Class 1 misdemeanor. PLEASE HELP ME. Thank you.

My bet would be they turned all of your IDs over to the cops.

My next bet is that you shouldn't expect to be staying in DC for much past the end of your sophomore year. If you were my kid, this incident would show me that (a) you're too immature to be so far from home and living on your own and (b) you're not bright enough to be at a school like Georgetown and I'm wasting my money sending you there (or, if you're getting a free ride - there must be a kid more deserving of that opportunity).

I find it intriguing that you bear no responsibility and definitely very little intelligence if you allow those who you believe are your intellectual inferiors to pressure you into anything. To me that says you are an idiot. And I agree with Stealth. You will most likely be issued a citation and have to go to court. You may even find your license suspended for attempting to purchase alcohol.

Okay hold on

Alright there has to be a way to answer questions without calling people names and talking down to them like they're idiots. Number 1: I would contact the DC police department and ask if they are aware of the location of your ID and if 'they' do not have it, you can request that they get it from the Night club that is obviously holding it. Number 2: I agree that you shouldn't place the entire blame on your friends. You are at fault too for allowing them to pressure you in the first place. Number 3: Stealth, I know you mean well, and I know that Ohiogal means well, but making a mistake does not necessarily mean that you are too immature to handle being away from home. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you handle those mistakes that determines whether or not you are mature or not. Please don't judge a book by its cover.
eae29, I would contact the DC police and ask if they have your ID, if they have your ID then they are holding it for information so as to issue you a citation, from there you can ask your questions and they will answer them or direct you to someone who can. If they do not have your ID, and since you have already told them the deal about entering a Night club underage I would request that they contact the Night Club and get your ID returned to you. I'm sure that the Police will convince the Night Club to hand it over;). I hope everything works out for the best, but do admit a little responsibility in what happened.

Take care!

Well, as I stated - it would be MY reaction if it were MY kid. And I'm sorry, but if I'm shelling out $35,568.00 for tuition ALONE each year, I get to make the determination for MY kid whether or not s/he gets as long a leash as s/he is currently on. You get to make whatever decision you want for YOUR kid.
