My boyfriend is being sued for medical bills from an ex-girlfriend who claims she was pregnant with his child but lost the baby.
One day after he ended their relationship, she tells him she is pregnant but that she wants nothing to do with him. He offered to support the child in any way, but she was adamant in keeping him out of the baby's life; no contact, no monetary support.
She stole a number of his things before she left and never repaid money he loaned her. Of course she is claiming she knows nothing about these things. He originally offered to pay half of the medical expenses to be a nice guy but after no response from her on the other things, he figured he would let it go. Furthermore, he was not positive the baby was his and she would not agree to a paternity test.
She filed a small claims court suit in Utah, however, he moved out of state (from Utah to Oregon to Washington) before he was served papers. He was unable to attend the court hearing; she won. She is now threatening to hire a private investigator in order to garnish his wages. Does he have any recourse or should he just pay and get on with life?
