I gave the purchaser my card with a receipt that stated non refundable $250 deposit. Will this suffice as written documentation?

My response:

It normally would; however, he'll say, "What receipt ?" He'll claim that no such receipt was given.

You should have had him sign such agreement and you should have kept it. What good was giving it to him ?
