We had our boat taken out of the water at a marina close by (30' boat) to have a boat mechanic work on it on March 27, 2008. The boat mechanic is not working for the marina. So we expected to be charged for land storage fees. The average fee in Virginia is $3.50 per foot for a month. I could not find a daily charge. The marina owner did not say what the charge was and we figured it was similar to what he charged 3 years ago when we took our boat out to paint bottom. He charged $100 for 30 days. We had a lot of trouble getting the mechanic to work on our boat. He would not return our calls. Finally on or around May 5/2 , he finished the work. We had to paint outdrives and a few other small things, before we put in the water. While doing these last few things, we discovered a boot
that was dry rotted and we had to get a new one and finally finished all work on May 23rd.
The owner of marina gave us a bill which showed from 3/19 ( which is wrong-should be 3-27) to 5/19 for a total of $1200.00 ($20.00 per day). We have to get our boat out of there and have to pay this charge before they will put back in the water. What can we do?
Can we pay by check & stop payment, then take him to court or what. This charge is absolutely outrageous. He did not give us anything in writing or discuss the amount to be charged.
Thank youWhat is the name of your state?

Pay him.

You can certainly do that..... if you want to have to pay far more in court fees, check fees, etc., and possibly risk arrest.

If he didn't raise the issue of prices YOU should have. You didn't, you got stuck for his charges.
