What is the name of your state? Texas, father passed away with no will. He has 5 grown children, of which 2 were legally adopted by our grandfather. What steps do we need to do to settle the estate? This is a small estate with about $2,000 in bank. Thank you. What is the name of your state?

There is a procedure in Texas for small estates, which involves completion of a small estate affidavit. Call the probate clerk at the county courthouse for your county and ask for the form.

I'm making a number of assumptions, including that there is no non-homestead property, and no debts of the estate.
