What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
My niece was placed in my custody 6 years ago. Her mother's rights were terminated but, her father's (my brother) were not. My brother has no problem with me and my husband adopting her. Is there a way to do the adoption without having to hire a lawyer?

We never advise posters to do adoptions without attorneys.

Many actions in family law can be performed pro se, but not adoption.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Due to complexities of adoption law, legal adoption is never a do-it-yourself project. Retain an attorney specializing in adoption law if you want this done correctly.
