What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

We are going on 2 and a half years with our current car... thru this time, our monthly payment has only been late once. Last night, our car was repossessed. Guy showed up with paperwork and hauled it away. My husband called our bank and confirmed our payments as well as being current on our bill & that this months payment is due on the 20th. He said the employee who filed the repossession paperwork started his vacation today, but he will speak with the employee's manager - as manager approval is needed before a repossession can be carried out. We have yet to hear back...

But, is this legal? Can they do this? If this is a mistake, it's an awful big one to make. And will this reflect on our credit?

Thank you for any advice. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
