What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Louisiana

I was born in July of 1988. I am trying to find the names of my biological parents. Any ideas?

How can I get my original birth certificate before I was adopted?

Have you contacte the agency and/or attorney involved in the adoption? Some will forward such a request to the birth parents who have the option of responding to you.

At least that is what we were told when we adopted our son through Catholic Social Services.

You can't get your original birth certificate, unless someone you know has a copy. The original no longer exists in the government records. It was destroyed, basically, when you were adopted.

Your adoptive parents may have a copy of your original birth certificate.

I know we never had an original BC for kiddo. The BC we were given when we adopted was the one that showed us as parents.

Syfonic, have you tried any of the online "registries" for adoption triad members looking for each other?
Here is a list of some resources:

How Do I get my original b/c

Hi,

I live in Ontario but perhaps this might apply as well. If you are anything like we are you will not be able to get your b/c. When you were adopted all records were sealed unless you are in an open adoption. Before placing you for adoption your mother was still legally your mother, a birth certificate was issued. When your adoption became finalized an amended b/c was issued with the adoptive parents name on it and the original was forever sealed.

Have you applied to the adoption disclosure unit from the Children's Services from which you were adopted from. Sometimes..there may be a clue that my help you find your parents. It may contain the following...age of mother at birth, colour of hair and eyes,
her education, type of work she did, if she has any siblings, her height, what nationality your mother was and perhaps some info on the grandparents side, also whether or not your mother was in the city or a rural area this is called non-identifying information. It may also contain information on your father

On your adoption order if you were born after 1970, the only information on your adoption order would be, lets see...Sarah P. 9448573 at the end of your name, at least that's how it shows on the a/o here. Check the school yearbooks at the age she would of been at the time of your birth. I have done this and have been able to find a first mother because she looks so much like the adoptee. If you have a registry in your state for both first mother's and adoptees to meet, put your name in it. Your mother may already be registered and looking for you. Register on as many adoption sites as possible, many have been reunited through WWW. Also register on Facebook, and my Space.

Feel free to ask anything...but all I can tell you is how it is done here, which I imagine is very similar most everywhere.

NO, as in NO.

We only do US law here. . The laws are very different by state in the US, and no Canadian attorneys are on these boards.

Records destroyed

Do you know that for a fact, I have not heard they are destroyed.

they were most likely destroyed. It is possible that they are sealed somewhere, but if it was a closed adoption, the bio parents would also have to agree to have them unsealed or you would need a court order
