What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

Hi all, my question is concerning the legality of viewing copyrighted material. Many websites online let viewers stream and watch movies that are copyrighted there is no downloading involved, it is similar to how one can watch videos on youtube.

I am wondering whether it is illegal to view these copyrighted material?
One source I found online had this to say

"The only laws in place are to prevent piracy. Copyright laws do not cover the viewing of illegally uploaded movies. So the person uploading the illegal file would be the only person "breaking the law". Also, most of the web sites you refer to only host links to these shows and movies, again not breaking any laws."

Thanks in advance for your advice
