What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

My grandfather recently passed away with some money in a checking account but no other assets. He had a simple will which names myself and my sister as sole heirs. How do we obtain access to this money? Do we need to do a probate? My sister and I both live in California. I don't know who to talk to or where to start.

Thank you.

Call the bank. They will tell you exactly what they need. It will depend on how the account was titled. Perhaps you were listed as beneficiaries, then the money is yours.
