is there anything i can do;is anyone responsible?

In July 2000 my mother purchased a 1998 Ford contour,and over the following 7 months the car was in for sevice 5 times.Also just before she bought the car the crankshaft was replaced.Well a couple of weeks ago the crankshaft went again and destroyed the entire engine,and neiher the dealer nor the mechanic will claim responsibility.Even the attoney generals office said there's nothing they will do. Is there anything at all that she may be able to do.
