I live in in Indiana. I'm 19 and a full time student. I got caught shoplifting from Dillard's in Louisville, KY $154 worth of merchandise. Last year I got a minor consumption, but I got a diversion. I haven't been in any other trouble. They said after six months it would be like it didn't happen. I don't really understand how a diversion works.

Does this mean it's off my record? Will the KY court see that I had a minor consumption ticket?

Also, what will happen when I go to court? What type of offense is shoplifting? What will my punishment likely be? Do I have to say anything? Would it help me to get a lawyer?
