What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

I am a student pilot applying for an airport ID to have un-escorted access to the general aviation area of my local airport. I was told that a background check would be conducted by Dept of Homeland Security that does not require fingerprints to be submitted. They say that they only need my name, date of birth and social security number.

My question is whether an expunged misdemeanor conviction which occurred over 20 years ago when I was 18 will show up on an FBI check without fingerprints being submitted. Even though the 20 year old expunged conviction was for a misdemeanor assault as a youth, It would be very embarrassing for this to be disclosed as I am going to take flight lessons with several co-workers including the CEO of my company.

Would the FBI response to such an inquiry show up as "no record" (as is the case when a state criminal history check is conducted for my expunged conviction) or would the original expunged conviction be disclosed even though expunged. (The FBI was sent a copy of the court ordered expungement 10 years ago when I had this conviction expunged).

Please advise as I am contemplating whether or not to sign up for this flight training.

The FBI honors state expungement processes so you should be good. You could check this yourself though via an fbi check just to make sure.....
