Help needed for Georgia expired driver license ticket, thanks

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

Ok. I got a expired license ticket a few days ago. The police officer told me to make a call to know my fine amount, then I think this should be fine. But when I called today, I was told that my citation can not be paid in the system, coz it requires me to appear in court. I'm a little worried about this.
1. For people got expired license tickets, are they usually required to appear in court?
2. What I can expect from the court?

It's a misdemeanor (OCGA 40-5-20(a)). The maximum penalty is $1,000.00 although it's probably going to be far less than that. It would be a good idea to get your license renewed before your court date.
