What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA

My son was a soldier in the U.S. Army who died in Killeen, TX. I am his mother and primary kin, as stated in his military papers. However, I cannot get the $900 left in his Fort Hood Bank account released until I have one of the following:
Letter of Testimentary, Small Estate Affadavit, or Letter of Administration.

I want to do this inexpensively as the amount of the account is small.

kittykohli,

thank you for your son's service. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Texas has a small estate affidavit process that is very simple. You need to call the Bell County Courthouse -

Belton Courthouse Annex
550 E. 2nd Street
Belton, Texas 76513
Phone: (254) 933-5174
Fax: (254) 933-5176
Mailing Address: P. O. Box 480
Belton, Texas 76513
Office Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Monday thru Friday

Talk to the probate clerk, who will help you fill out the small estate affidavit. Note that the filing fee is $204. You can do it through the mail.
