This issue is regarding the use of Myspace and more particularly the "Mobsters" application. This application is a game that coincides with Myspace allowing groups of Myspace users to play online with other people, fighting, making investments, and running a "mob" with their friends.

To my knowledge this game does not have a mechanism that determines age, nor is there a means of easily accessing that information about a user.

My questions is in regards to inappropriate language being spoken to a minor. Recently, a comment was left on an individuals mobsters page with the message "suck my dick." Apparently the individual receiving this message was a minor. The users parents saw this comment, and claim to have made a police report and referred to the comment as "sexual assault on a minor."

To me it seems without there being a mechanism to determine age, without the comment providing any threat or reference to the individual in real life, and without repeated incidents there would be no case.

What do you think?

"Suck my dick" is not even censored on this board.

It is not sexual assault.

It is a common insult phrase that has appeared on broadcast TV.

Parents should take away the internet.

I also STRONGLY suspect the user falsified their age on the MySpace profile!!!

So, who are YOU in this equation?
This is actually about a friend of mine who made that comment. He is going to flip out when he reads their statements of filing police reports and reporting him etc. I wanted to have something to tell him past my own judgment on the matter. He's had other legal issues, although nothing whatsoever involving sexual issues, but I am sure that their statements will scare him.

Thank you, xylene. That is what I thought, but I just figured I'd be sure.

In regards to falsifying the age on myspace, there is no age posted on the mobsters application, so it's hard to tell. Technically, one can identify the individuals user ID number and then paste it in the URL box at the correct location to view their myspace, but that is too complicated for the average user. Perhaps I should do that, though, and determine what age is posted on the actual profile. At anyrate, the parents claimed the user was 14.

Is there an age restriction on myspace? If so, if would be nice to report him for that.

You didn't read my question. You did answer it though...so it's a wash.

If memory serves, one must be 14 for a myspace page. I *could* be wrong, but I know that I had to set up myspace for my 13 year old daughter (which, before I get blasted, is so that she and her friends back home can keep in touch, is set to private, and I monitor both the page daily AND her when she is on myspace.)

Yeah, because nobody lies about their age to get around that age restriction thing. Same thing with minors viewing pornography-based websites.

I will say that I'm happy you happen to have such honest children that they asked for your help instead of lying about their age. You seem to be raising some awesome children! :)
