What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan.

I am asking this question on behalf of my cousin who recently began
dating a boy at her school. My cousin is 14 years old, and the boy is
17. The two have not had any sexual contact, but his mother is extremely
upset about the situation. She plans on pressing charges on her son.
Can she do this? Is there a law against 14 year olds and 17 year olds TALKING?

Your cousin should do as her mother says.

It is not her mother, it is the boys.
But, "Thou shalt respect thy mother and father" aside, is it illegal for them to date?

No, it is not illegal, in that there is not a law that says, "If you are 17 you may not talk to a 14 year old".

However, they are both minors and if the mother of either one of them says they can't talk, then they can't talk.

And trust me, if the law gets involved, the law is going to be on the mother's side, whether what they are doing is prohibited by law or not.
