What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

What is the responsibility of the executor of a will to contact heirs and is it possible to contest a will prior to contacting the heirs listed. Is there any way to check and make sure the correct will was filed and not a previous will made up by the deceased?

Thank youWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

In Texas, I believe that notice to beneficiaries is required within 60 days after the order admitting the will to probate.

Well, I guess that you can contest any time after the will is submitted to the court. Texas allows contests for 2 years after the will has been admitted.

The question is unclear. Once filed with the court, the will admitted to probate will be available at the court. If you have custody of the most recent will or know who does, then it is your duty or the will custodian's duty to deliver the will to the court. If you don't, then it is going to be pretty difficult to prove that a more recent will exists.
