What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

I was recently fired from my job. I felt over the last several months my boss was out to make me quit or setting me up to be fired. This was because he wrote me up twice and suspended me for a week for what were very borderline issues. Finally he fired me after telling me a client complained about my performance. This was completely false. The client confirmed there were no issues and he never phoned or made a statement like that. I feel this was slander or maybe defamation of character. However, this was a complete lie that my boss told. I feel there should be some recourse. Any suggestions?
