What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I was recently laid off my current job and was approved for unemployment benefits.
If I work a commission job like real estate or insurance am I still entitled to benefits until I actually start earning money at my new job? I know I have to be actively seeking employment so I am still submitting applications every week to appease unemployment department.
I just look at this as an opportunity to break into a new commission based career with some unemployment assistance until I start making some money.
What would happen if I continuously applied to new jobs and was selling insurance on the side. If I just sold a few policies here and there would I still be eligible for the unemployment or would they stop my benefits??

If you are working, you generally aren't eligible for UI benefits, not withstanding the fact that you may not have commissions yet.
