What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

I was offered a job July 08 and was told there would be no layoffs. I left my 69K employment to this one of 79K. It was a PMO position NOT requiring certification as we did not work in IT but in medical business process. Our work involved work process improvement. In November our new boss told our dept (3) we were being terminated due to the economy. The non profit needed to cut jobs as they could not refinance some of their loans at a decent rate. We did not receive severence. In January they posted our positions but with new qualifications such as PM certifications. There have been no layoffs since ours. We have also heard that we were laid off because our new boss was an IT PM and she wanted only IT PM certified working for her. I have now had to accept a 61K position and my co-workers have not found employment. Do we have a legal case?

Of course not.

1.) Your ex-employer is not required to give you severance
2.) You were not terminated based on a legally-protected class
3.) Your employer's staffing needs changed to skills for which you presumably do not qualify

You have a case for unemployment benefits, and that's about it... except you found gainful employment again. Be grateful that you did in this market.
