I received a double parking ticket in brooklyn while running inside an orthopedic surgeon's office to pick up a set of x-rays. After i picked up the x-rays, which literally took two minutes, I was met by my car with a meter maid printing out my 100% accurate ticket. The only reason i double parked was because i was rushing to make an appointment with a hand specialist for a pre surgery visit (that if i missed would have pushed off the surgery for another 7 days) and he wanted to take a look at a copy of the x-rays, which i had to get once again because they were misplaced by his office. The next day i had surgery on my hand to remove an incredibly painful cyst.
I guess the question i have is whether or not the court will have any type of sympathy or compassion for my situation, given that the ticket was the result of a personal health situation. I am not questioning the validity of the ticket, just would love to not pay the 115 dollar fine. I don't know if this helps or hurts my case, but i am 19 years old and a full time student.

There is no clause that states you may double park as long as you're in a hurry.

What you're asking us isn't really a legal question, but more asking us to predict the future, which, at this time, we are, unfortunately, unable to do.

I understand that there is never a legal time to double park. What i am asking is if anyone has ever heard of a similar situation to his one. Something along the lines of the court showing some type of leniency towards the guilty party?

And how many threads have you read here before asking? (I only mention it because I know I've answered this exact question, for Brooklyn no less, multiple times in the past).

Click Search button, type "brooklyn double park" and see what you can find.

I am not disagreeing that the ticket was warranted. I agree being in "a hurry" is no excuse to break the law and double parking is an illegal offense. Please before answering back hastily, understand that. And no (You Are Guilty) i did not find anything that pertains to the issue i am raising. I am purely curious if anyone has even undergone or heard of this scenario being raised as a defense in court.

If you're going to answer back and say read more posts, or something essentially useless to the question i am asking please refrain from responding. I am merely asking for an opinion if you were in a similar situation. Thank you.

If I were in a similar situation, I'd probably pay the ticket - but then again, I don't double park.

Of course I have, I've been a lawyer quite a while now.

Gee, and here I was thinking that all the prior posts in which I provided both my opinion and the law on the issue were what you wanted. But it's too much to ask that you do a modicum of research as opposed to me typing the exact same thing for the fifth time. I guess your time is just more valuable than mine.

In any event, good luck with your ticket.

This from the person who came on here to ask:
I just wanted to know what is the difference between a double parking ticket and a traffic lane ticket.

Milea - don't give advice based on something that you have NO clue about!
