What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

i was told when terminated i am not to contact any of my clients, otherwise that would jeopordize my unemployment.

well it has been 2 weeks and my phone rang today. it was one of my clients. i asked how they got my cell phone number. they indicated that my former employer gave it to them.

isn't that a violation of my privacy? can i do anything about this?

Agree with cbg. Although I do have to say it was very unprofessional. Contact the company and ask them to not give out your personal phone number to any other customers.

Anyone who has an internet connection can find a cell phone number. Anyone who has a phone book can find a land line number.

I wouldn't advise getting my legal information from Wikipedia.

ok thank you. i just was so taken back and shocked. never had a situation like this happen to me before. maybe i over reacted, sorry.

now i just received my personal items from my previous employer and sent them an email because i did not get everything. word is that they threw some of my stuff out. what do i do in a case like that?

What kind of "stuff"? If it was "stuff" on the PC, it was theirs legally anyway.

If it was tangible "stuff", like pictures on your desk, books, etc., I guess you could file a police report for theft.

no nothing on the computer and i understand that is company property no matter what. these were books that i personally purchased and brought to the job. paperwork, like copies of my appraisals that were my copies. copies of prescription receipts for kids that i had to send into my insurance company and was waiting for reimbursement.
