What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

My wife believes she is about to be fired from her job as a church office manager. The Pastor at the church has made her do weekly bible studies with him and asked her repeatedly to come to service at the church. We went once, but didn't feel comfortable there. Also, in her three month evaluation, she was told by the pastor that he was going to re-evaluate whether the position could held by a non-Lutheran. Do we have any recourse here? She wasn't told that she had to be a Lutheran to get the job.

There is no federal problem per CORPORATION OF PRESIDING BISHOP v. AMOS, 483 U.S. 327 (1987). I am uncertain if California has a different standard.
