My question involves search and seizure law in the State of: Michigan
My neice was pulled over. Officers asked her out the car & had a K-9 unit walk around her car. Officers immediately began to search the vehicle thoroughly. After 20 minutes, nothing illegal was recovered so the officers took the vehicle back to the station. 4 hours later, they presented my neice with a search warrant, kept the vehicle & released her. 48 hours laters, officers still can't find anything illegal, but refuse to release the vehicle, as they claim they are still getting 'hits' from the K9.
My question is simple: How long can they keep the vehicle?
