Hi,

This is about a case in Cook County, Illinois (Chicago). In early February, I dismissed my attorney. She subsequently submitted a bill to me that included many charges that I am disputing -- $60.00 fees for reading a one-paragraph email dismissing her, $150 to talk to the attorney I am considering to hire just to ask for next court date, etc. I attempted to reach her, faxed a detailed description of the charges I disputed. I received notice today WEDNESDAY that she is appearing in court in a week's time to ask the judge of the original case for all fees. I live in California, and having had no advance notice of this have little chance of finding a fare back to Chicago where the case will be presented.

Is there a way of asking for an extension?

Can my side of the case be presented to the judge in my absence?

Any adice appreciated.
