What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Florida

Husband suffered what can best be described as a seizure and then for four hours believed himself to be 17 and living in Bklyn, and since has been gambling our food money away. I need to protect my finances so I can establish my own credit after divorce. Husband has withdrawn more than four hundred plus there will be over drafts. He has been on disability for back injury and I have been home caring for him. Right now he is using pain meds to limit pain so he can go to the casino.
He is angry, abusive to our furniture and house hold items but not to my son or myself, except verbally. Police told my I cannot leave the state with my son without husbands permission.
No money. No resources. No friends in state. No idea where to start or what to do.

You don't ask the police for legal advice.

You absolutely can leave the state, with your son, without dad's permission. However, dad could rush to court and file for custody, and try to convince a judge to order you to return the child to FL. Whether or not he would actually try to do that depends on a lot of factors that we don't know.

You first step needs to be to move your money to your own bank account, so that he does not have access to it. If you are not working, then you need to get back to work and earn your own money, so that you know that the bills can be paid.

What did the neurologist, that you surely made sure he visited, say about the seizures? Was a brain scan done? An out of the blue seizure is often indicative of a brain tumor or brain damage. He probably has needed serious MEDICAL intervention since the seizure alerted you that something is wrong. And, if there is brain damage or a problematic tumor, you should have tried to obtain a guardianship as soon as the irrational behavior began, if there is a clear medical explanation.
