What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois.
We are being evicted by a Condo association. They are citing section 18 of the Condominium Property Act. We are leasing the unit from the owner. They are stating we can’t legally stay here. We were given a 10 day notice. Is this the right amount of time we should have been given? They also sent us a bill for 1645.00 as being assessments to the property. We never were given a bill for this amount, we have receipts for the rent we paid until the landlord died. It appears we will be paying for money HE owed, which was discharged in bankruptcy. They also gave notice in May, but figured the amounts until July. (I heard through the grape vine)We stayed here for 2 additional months after he died as he kept our security deposit and he also had us do work he said he would reimburse us (with rent). The 2 months was over in May and we have essentially been squatters since then. 2 key points, one we never got any kind of a bill from anyone, so we did not want to just pay anyone. The other point is they have never put a handicapped parking sigh, as we requested in writing per HUD requirements. They even asked why we would have a 2nd floor apt, when our son is Handicapped, insinuating he is not.
