What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
If two decide to live together, not get married but purchase items together and then separate who gets all the items purchased for the apartment?

Are receipts necessary to prove part ownership?
Thankyou

Generally, whoever purchased an item would own it (unless it was a gift to the other person). If you each paid 1/2, then you each own 1/2 and have to figure out a way to divide things.

It's a messy situation which could end up turning into a very expensive fiasco if the two of you aren't mature about it. Best bet is to sit down (with a third party, if necessary) and reach an agreement.
