What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OHIO

Apologies if this post is miscategorized....

I co-signed for an apartment for my ex because of her bad credit. I never lived there as a permanent resident. The apartment ended up trashed and a judgment for the landlord was made in small claims.

Obviously, now this judgment is a blemish on my credit report (previously 810!). Now I cannot even get a credit card, wtf! (obama this is what is wrong!)

Do I have any recourse???

If you can show that you were not properly served, you may be able to get the judgment set aside.

Then you can negotiate with the landlord to pay the damages without going back to court.

Unfortunately, that is one of the risks you take when you co-sign.

the judgment was technically satisfied (i.e. I have the cancelled check as proof), but in the court records it is still unpaid.

yes, I know... stupid... live--> learn

You need to find out whether or not the judgement creditor filed a satisfaction of judgement.
