What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Hawaii.

We bought a condo back in 1992 (in Hawaii) when it was first built and have been living there fulltime ever since. At the time dogs were allowed so we got a dog. A few years later they decided that dogs wouldn't be allowed any longer (only cats) but that Ticki (our dog) would be the sole dog allowed. Ticki recently passed away at the age of 18 and we tried to get a new dog but now the manager is saying that we have to take it to the board for a vote to see if we can get a new dog (same breed) to replace Ticki. But shouldn't the exception be automatically grandfather'ed in since we never left the condo? thank you for your time and advice. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Did they grandfather your condo's ability to have dogs, or did they specifically grandfather Ticki being allowed? Do you have it in writing? If the exception was verbal, then I would expect the board to interpret it in their favor.

**A: provide exactly what the Board gave you in writing to allow Tiki.
