I am working for a big financial company in New York.
I had a baby on December 8,2000. According to the company benefits I could take disability leave, than unpaid leave. Because I am the only source of income in my family I started working after 6 weeks of disability( in January 2001). In March my company introduced a new benefit under which I could take additional 8 paid weeks to stay home with the baby. That policy was effective January 1, 2001, but nobody informed me about that.

Do I have a legal right to request this 8 weeks now?
Can I get any compensation?

Thank you,
Marianna
