What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? RI My son is buying a house that has an easement through the property that served as an alternate access to a motel. The motel has since been converted into condominiums and there are two other ways to access the condos. Is there any way to "deactivate" the easement or restrict it to the condo owners only?

Yes. However it will require the services of a local attorney to draft the proper documents and comply with the required process.

While I agree with JETX's answer to your question, perhaps it should also be noted that you cannot unilaterally deactivate or extinguish the easement. The owner of the easement right must consent.
