What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NE

I posted here a few weeks ago regarding the same case and I got such great advice that I thought I'd come back for more :D

My golf clubs were stolen, the police came and dusted for prints...none in their system matched. Two weks ago I got a call from the police that they now have matching prints in their system for the prints that were found on a CD case in the car. The thief was 17 at the time and is 19 now. I tried to contact him, but he did not respond, so I visited with his Dad about this. His Dad apologized and said he would look into it. Apparently the son is saying that he was there and was in the car but that another friend took the golf clubs out of the trunk so he is not going to reimburse me for my loss. My question is, are these prints enough to win a judgment against the punk kid that I KNOW was in the car?

The police will not get involved, as the statute of limitations has expired on the criminal side, but not on the civil side.

If there is additional information I should provide, I would be happy to...Thanks in advance.

With no proof he actually took the clubs? I give your odds as slim and none and slim is on his way out of town.
