What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Our ex-landlord has refused to refund our security deposit ($2,100,00). We have had a lawyer serve him with a letter of demand, but he has not answered it. He lives out of state and we want to file in small claims court but don't know how to go about it. Any ideas how we can bring this wily fellow to justice? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Is the place you rented in Texas? If it is, you can sue him in Texas. Serving him will be another problem.

Just looked into that myself in Texas. Rule states that defendant must be sued in county where they live or where the agreement/contract took place. Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code 15.082
