I am a ex-senior executive of a privately held company working in NY. I have an agreement letter which looks tobe of little value to either party and I can be considered as a employee at will.

I have recently been laid off with a severance package to be "decided". I have received advice that I should request 1 year's severance pay.I am not a union member

Is there a "norm" that I should use as a bench mark for my request?

There is no normal package that would fit executives around the nation. It is pretty much a local thing. So it would be best to ask a local employment law attorney about that type thing. You can find one in NY at https://attorneypages.com
