I was recently awarded judgement for around $1000 by a small claims court in Richmond, Virginia. The judgement earns interest, so I'm not in any particular rush, but I would like the money before the guy declares bankruptcy.

I know that there is some court procedures, like pay docking or asset seizure that I can go through to secure payment but I no longer live in Richmond and I'm not sure if I can do anything in absentia. If I can't, is it permitted to sell the judgement to a collection agency and let them deal with it? Or to hire a collection agency to collect for me?

Also, if he does declare bankruptcy, where do I fall on the list of creditors (mostly credit cards I believe).

Thanks for the help! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
