i am a full time college student in iowa. i was working part time in a coffee shop in a local mall. i was laid off due to "financial and economic reasons" and was told that i was not the only one "effected" and that i was being laid off because i was "the new kid on the block" but I come to find out that not only was i the only one laid off but that someone hired after i was was un-effected. i was given no notice for the lay-off and was wondering due to the circumstances am i entitled to severance pay and/or unemployment?
