What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

Can someone tell me exactly what this is? I want to sue for damages caused by excessive water being dumped onto my land from a sediment pond and I read that you can sue for this in NC.

An injunction stops unlawful conduct in the future
Damages compensate you for the harm unlawful conduct caused you in the past.

Sound like you'll need a lawyer, but in your case if you can prove the necessary facts and the law is on your side you could both get an injunction to stop future deposits of water on your land and recover damages for past deposits of water on your land if they caused compensable harm (e.g., flooded basement that required expensive cleanup).
