What is the name of your state (IL)?
My mom died and she did have a will. Do I need to have a lawyer to change the deed over to my name?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

You will need to submit the will for probate and apply to administer your mother's estate.

Illinois has a small estate process that avoids probate. But it applies only to probatable assets totaling $100,000 or less and that do not include real estate.
