What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

My mom passed away this past Sept. Since her passing, a case against Vioxx has been settled and for payment to be made, I am supposed to become my moms executor of her estate. I was told at the courthouse that I need to contact a lawyer to do that. Is that the only way I can do this? Are there forms on line that I can print out and do this myself? I really did not want to get into a big legal thing.

Thanks,
Mary

Have you done a search? I know that Cook county has forms online.

Probate can be a "big legal thing" when you don't know what you are doing. But, it is your choice whether to retain an attorney.
