domestic dispute

We live in Michigan. My husband and I got into an argument a few days ago, I called 911 and he ended up spending the day in jail. Arraignment is tomorrow. This is the first time he's ever been in trouble with the cops, first offense for anything. There was pushing by both parties, so what is the best way to plead to avoid jail?

Get a good criminal defense attorney to plead misunderstaning, first offense, etc. Might get a fine if he seems sincere.
