This question is regarding a Maryland LLC with a foreign-LLC registration in VA.

Lets say a company is registered as an LLC as "Acme Marketing and Branding, LLC". (Yes that is a terrible fictitious name). Over time they want to offer more than marketing and branding and want to just use "Acme" for their web site, marketing collateral, etc.

Should they register a DBA, or file for a complete name change to use "Acme, LLC"? If they file a DBA would they then be able to use "Acme" for all legal documents and bank accounts from that point forward?

Thanks!

If you're going to do business under a name that is different than the entity (be it a corporation, LLC, or person), then you need to register a fictitious name (a/k/a d/b/a).
