regarding my son, college graduate who is 23
no police record, has never been in trouble with the law

Andrew was out with friends, downtown, had not been drinking. They had parked in a parking garage. Going back to the car, Andrew saw a fire extinguisher in the middle of the roadway of the parking garage. He picked it up, took it over to where their vehicle was parked, along the outside edge of the garage and while waiting for friends to return from eating, pushed the button and it squirted and fell below on some young man. He said "Hey", a security guard heard, came over and summoned a police office.

Officer asked if he was the one who had hit the button on extinguisher, Andrew said yes, policeman arrested him, felony charge, cuffed him and took him to jail. Read him no rights, asked no other questions. I paid bail ($1,000) the next morning, took him home and we haven't heard a thing since. It has been 6-8 weeks. Andrew has gone to the court house & tried calling there to try to find out the status of his case, what he should do, what he should expect, and they tell him they haven't gotten the paperwork yet.

What should we do? He did not break open the case where the extinguisher was supposed to be housed, he found it lying on the ground, therefore, no fingerprints are on the extinguisher case in the stairwell.

Thank you.
Susan
