What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I had a thought,

If I submit a Cr-125 Supena Duces Tecum and request for records to be brought to court, When I go in I can see the records at time of trial and then request for a continuance due to the files being admitted untimely to prep a defense, is that correct?

What if the Judge says that "You should of filed a Information Discovery Request"

Who's really in the wrong?

Thanks!
